All about Mirtos

“Mirtos is like a big family, and we’d like you to be a member of it” – Aléxandros Pantelákis, Mayor of Mirtos

Mirtos

Mirtos village has less than 500 inhabitants, and is located far away from the busy nightlife and mass tourism in the north of Crete. It is the ideal destination for a quiet holiday in beautiful surroundings. The locals live here all year round and are very friendly and welcoming. In summer, especially in the evening, they like to sit outside and watch the street life.

For your daily essentials, there’s no need to leave the village. Mirtos has two supermarkets, a bakery, a butcher, souvenir shops, a pharmacy and of course many Greek tavernas. The taverns are mostly located along the seafront, but can also be found in the narrow streets. Furthermore, there is a tourist office in Mirtos, where for example, you can arrange your trips.

The inhabitants of Mirtos are living primarily from small-scale tourism, but many are employed in agriculture and horticulture. Many times the meals you order in a taverna incorporate the products of the owners, such as olives and olive oil from their own olive grove, orange juice from delicious home-grown oranges and honey from their own bees.
